Day 58 - When Will We Swim...

Took a snap of the deserted neighborhood pool. While the temps are warming up, we are nowhere near full blown outdoors weather yet....

Day 57 - Ikea

Day 57 - Ikea, originally uploaded by Split Pearsonality.

Trotted off to Ikea to buy the little one some bedroom furniture. Could not resist a stop at their infamously cheap (and good!) cafeteria. I had the warm apple and cinnamon bread pudding with caramel sauce, he had the Daim Torte

Day 56 - Weekend Reading

Yes, I am a Wannabe Asian parent...and demented... finished off both books in one weekend. Interesting to say the least.....

Day 55 - The School Contribution

I signed up to donate a cake for our school event, however, the school district does not allow homemade donations. So the item needs to be store or bakery bought which meant ..BORING.... However, the PTA still wanted a "Seaside or Beach" theme, so I bought some icing sugar pre-made decorations (dolphins, surf boards, and a couple of palm trees) and put them on top of a chocolate cake. Mission accomplished.

Day 54 - Malabar Mutton Biriyani

My first attempt at the delicious rice and meat concoction from South India

Day 53 - Ballet

Day 53 - Ballet , originally uploaded by Split Pearsonality.

Warm ups

Day 52 - Dismal commute into work

Overcast skies and heavy traffic

Day 51 - What is this?

Banana Flower...actually edible. But funny that the grocery store check out guy asked me what it was and whether it could be eaten.

Day 50 - Resilient

Day 50 - Resilient, originally uploaded by Split Pearsonality.

Our backyard has been reduced to dried and dead shrubs and twigs due to the brutal winter, but I spotted this very resilient sprig of mint growing through the cracks in the pavement.

Day 49 - Quail Eggs

Day 49 - Quail Eggs, originally uploaded by Split Pearsonality.

Bought quail eggs for the first time, and marveled at how distinct their egg shell patterns were....

Day 48 - Discovered 99 Ranch

I've passed by a new store called 99 Ranch in our neighborhood quite a couple of times and thought it was a Dollar store - that missed the "c" (99 cent store). A fearless relative then told me it was a new Asian store from California. I went in today and was FLOORED by the exotix fruits, vegetables and Asian goodies on display. I have a feeling this place is going to become a new fave haunt for me

Day 47 - Julia Child's Boeuf Bourguignon

Attempted a classic Julia Child's recipe, and sweared profusely why I had bothered 3 hours into the 5 hour process. Finally got to taste the results today, and promptly forgot about the kvetching I had done earlier...

Day 46 - I finally joined the 21st Century!

Got the I-Phone 4. The heckling from my friends who derided my 20th century cell phone and my woeful inadequacy at texting can now subside.
Now if I can figure out how to actually make use of it....

Day 45 - Valentines Day? Heck No - Pay Day!

MY company typically hands out Profit sharing checks on Valentines Day. This is the first year in a LONG WHILE that we actually made a profit, and we were treated to these $ cupcakes as well.

Day 44 - The High Roller Truck

As I was about to pull out of the driveway to work in the morning, this monster truck showed up and blocked our street. Advertising high end luxury vehicles like Rolls Royce and Ferrari, it made quite a few heads tunr in the neighborhood. Alas, the delivery was NOT for me....

Day 40 - Playing With Food

My three year old always runs up whenever any form of dough is being used in the house, and then proceeds to make his shapes out of it.

Day 33 - The Fountain Iced Over

..and the Toys came out to Skate...Polly pocket has got some moves there..

Day 31 - Why The Spouse Should Not Be In Charge Of The Netflix Queue

Enough Said...

Day 29 - A Homemade Fruit Bouquet

We were invited to my niece's 17th birthday, and I couldn't wrap my head around what to get a teen these days. So I gave her fruit. Which solidified my "not-cool" status even further. But I did get brownie points for the chocolate covered strawberries and cake balls.

Day 27: My scruffy, overflowing night stand

This sight should send neat freaks scurrying for cover...Yes, I have a "slight" problem with books, magazines and cookbooks

Tequila Lime Chicken

Tequila Lime Chicken, originally uploaded by Split Pearsonality.

Copycat recipe from Applebees restaurant. Chicken marinated in tequila, liquid smoke (oh yeah, I went there!), ginger, garlic, lime juice and tequila. Baked with cream sauce and cheese, served up for dinner on tortilla chips.

When Harry met Sally

When Harry met Sally, originally uploaded by Split Pearsonality.

These two plants on my bathroom window sill always crack me up. The one on the right with the over-extended "Arm" always reminds me of some guy in a bar trying a pick-up line on the prim and proper lady on the left.

Sayyadieh - Lebanese Fish and Rice

Had a Fish and Rice dish from the phenomenal Fadi's restaurant in Houston. Have been trying to recreate it forever, finally got a similar recipe from Arabesque by Claudia Roden.

Global Toast - from Bombay to France

Gave two types of Toast a spin today - French Toast and Masala Bombay Toast

A Shopping List by A Three Year Old

Emergency Early dismissal led to a three year old being home today. Got him to make the grocery list as went on errands. Funny how he thought our grocery store sold fur (mink?)

Brown Butter Pasta With Vegetables

Made this to go with some salmon for dinner. The bag of salmon recommended "brown butter pasta" so off I trotted to Google to find a recipe. Pasta tossed with brown butter (beurre noisette), mushrooms, garlic, onions and broccoli

Puzzled, originally uploaded by Split Pearsonality.

The latest obsession, even if it means using his siblings very girly possessions...

Ten Years....

Ten Years....
Originally uploaded by Split Pearsonality

This arrived on day 10, but I've been absent the last 2 days, and only got to photograph it today =(. Walked into a meeting on monday and was presented with this, the token our company gives out for years of service. 10 years = 2 Sapphire dots. Now that I think of it, i don't even know where my "5 year" badge is, but more importantly, it was kind of surreal to realise I've been in one place for the last 10 years.......

On any given day, this is the status of our fruit platter. When I do my routine grocery shopping, I have a straight path through the store that does not change significantly from day to day. Oranges, bananas, apples, lemons.
If I'm feeling fancy, grapes or something exotic like kiwis or mangoes may make an appearance.

Old Bottle, New Life

Old Bottle, New Life
Originally uploaded by Split Pearsonality

One of the duds of our Xmas Party this year (the ONLY one, I must say) was when my husband opened this prized bottle of African after-dinner liquer, and poured it out into a glass in front of all the guests, and what emerged was clumps of fermented, way-past-sell-by-date...milk.
But my mom, who can never bring herself to throw anything away, was so smitten by the bottle, leopard-print-cloth-cover and all, that she washed it out, stuck in a rose bud from the garden and re-christened it.
I still think...FAIL.
